The most difficult and dangerous part of the project was lifting
the huge laminated roof beams. Without power equipment, these
had to be lifted and placed by hand. All other work stopped and
all of the team as well as some bystanders helped lift the
beams. Here, gathering to lift the beams |

Beginning to lift the first of three beams. |
|
The other end of the beam is lifted with blocks to help position
it at the top. |
|
Quite a crowd gathered to see if we could pull this off.
We heard that several in the crowd said we couldn't do it, which
made us more determined. I'm sure more than one prayer was
said for strength and safety. |
|
Some bystanders helped us get the end of the beam onto the
blocks and scaffolding. |

Blocking the beam as it is slowly raised into position. |

This is a carpenter from the church who helped supervise
construction. I do not have his name. |

The second beam goes into place. |

All three beams in place! |

With the support beams in place, work on the roof can proceed. |

Basic roof framing is completed. |

The end gables are built. This is the rear of the church. |
