A stop in southern Oklahoma to change a tire as team members
wait. On the return trip, Rev. Lake used the 1962 Chrysler 300
to push one of the other vehicles through the night back to the
border and a service station. |

One of our first encounters with the ever present "street"
children at the border checkpoint in Piedras Negras. For many of
the team, this was their first exposure to street begging,
especially by children. |
|
Howard
Culbertson contributes to the local economy. Many of the
children were quite the entrepreneurs, offering to sell us most
anything. We were saddened to learn that some of the children
were offering to sell more than merchandise. |

After a long trip, we arrived at Muzquiz late in the afternoon.

The arrival of so many American college guys attracted a lot of
attention, especially among the young ladies who stopped by the
hotel to check out the newcomers. The guys didn't seem to
mind. From left: Wesley Smith, [--], Larry Wright. |

bed. From left: David Uerkvitz, George Lake, Cleve

Another view of the palm as the sun begins to set. |

A trip to the neighboring town of Palau for Palm Sunday
services. I don't think the guys rode on top the entire six
miles. But then, we were college kids! |

One of the best parts of the trip for many was interacting with
local people and children. Here Tom Pound tries bilingual
communication after the service in Palau. |

more than words. |

The beautiful stone Catholic Church of Muzquiz was just across
the street in front of our hotel. (team photo) |

Unloading supplies into the building that would serve as our
kitchen and dining area, as well as a place to rest. From

right was the pastor of the Muzquiz Church of the Nazarene in
1966. [I don't have his name]. |

Children were always present wherever the team went. Here
they watch through the door and window as we eat. Some asked for
food, which made it uncomfortable for many of the team. |
